Well, well, well. This comes as no surprise to me. I have always felt that The Cold War was never over. Peace, as we know it, is an illusion. There will never be peace. The "have nots" will always want to take from the "haves" or vice versa.
I am not a real big fan of politics, or politicians for that matter. I feel that they all are greedy and have secret agendas and are liars.
These new developments over in Poland have got me thinking though. Would it be prudent to build a bomb shelter in my basement? I have always thought of the nuclear threat.
Would I want to survive after a full blown nuclear strike? I think it would get kinda boring. Hollywood has a habit of glamorizing crap like that. In the Hollywood version, the people that do survive will be worried about banding together, forming a workable society again and crap like that. I think that would not be the case. The people that do survive will have one thing on their minds. Obtaining food, water and shelter. That's if their brains have not been scrambled by the stress and reality of Nuclear War, and they will kill, maim, destroy anybody or anything to get it. Then you would have to worry about the people that are waiting for, and some of them "wanting" something like a Nuclear War to happen. Those people scare me. I feel they are not right in the head. I mean give me a break, who wants society to die out? I don't. Sure there are a few poeple that I have met in the past that I would not mind seeing blown into cinders, but, sheesh not the whole fucking planet!
Which brings me to another point to ponder. A proper bomb shelter needs a few things.
1. A self contained, independent, uncorruptible water source. A well or cistern. City water will not work. This goes hand in hand with the sewer as well. Where's the shit gonna go?
2. Electricity, batteries or a generator. Wind will not work in the beginning. A windmill may not survive the attack, if it does it will lead others to you.
3.Stealth. A good shelter needs to be a secret. Just think if the shit is hitting the fan, your whole neighborhood knows of your shelter. They do not want to die. They will fight you tooth and nail to get in. If you hold them off at first Be prepared to fight them, they will try to destroy you and your shelter out of jealousy.
4.Ventilation. You will need access to fresh air. Clean fresh air. Being underground for extended periods with out any ventilation is very uncomfortable. It will get very hot underground without fresh air, not to mention stink pretty bad.
5.Supplies. Food, weapons, ammo. Stuff like that. I think that this is easiest thing on my list to acquire.
Well, just looking at this list makes me wince. I see thousands of dollars up there. It makes me think "screw it, why should I want to survive in the first place" Spend all of that money for what? To be bored and constantly looking behind my back, if a strike should happen. Perhaps I will just go along with the rest of the sheeple and parish in the fire storm. I don't know.
I do know this. Maybe in a few years I'll put a shelter behind the bar. Yes!! The bar!!! There will be a bar!! That's the first thing on the "to do list"!!!!
